The dark skin has many structural advantages, if compared to the light skin; however, caution is always indicated to keep the skin healthy and beautiful. There are many doubts on which esthetic procedures are effective and indicated for this phototype.
Even though is more resistant to the effects of aging and suffer less with the sunrays action, the dark skin is very sensible to stains. Those specificities may bring questioning on the choice of treatment.
According to the dermatofunctional physiotherapist and HTM consultant Thaís Rodrigues, “It is important to choose the ideal procedure for each type of skin. Currently, the esthetic treatments are very versatile and democratic, with protocols adapted to every gender and phototype. You only have to choose a good professional and quality equipment”, she concludes.
Each technology has an indication, so understand the myths and truths about each method:
Radiofrequency: This technology is considered to be non-ablative, which means it is not harmful to the skin because is not invasive. The darkk skin, many times, for the high level of melanin, has tendencies to hyperchromias, hyper pigmented stains like melisma, for example. Radiofrequency devices are used with efficiency on dark skin and do not cause any adverse reactions. They are indicated for the treatment of various esthetic conditions, such as flaccidity of the skin and wrinkles, as well as on the skin aliments like cellulitis and concentrated fat. The Límine and Effect equipment are indicated for this treatment.
Carboxitherapy: This is an universal and democratic method, because it is indicated for all skin types. The carboxitherapy is an invasive method that, through a small needle, performs the subcutaneous infusion of the carbonic gas (CO2). Injecting the gas, the organism interprets the lack of oxygen (O2), raising the concentration of tissue oxygen and stimulating the cell metabolism, providing the improve of the blood circulation. The entering of the gas causes a local inflammatory process, which stimulates the collagen and elastin production, contributing for the improvement of the skin aspect. The Pluria equipment is indicated for this treatment.
Ultrasound: The high power ultrasound does not present contraindications by skin phototype, once its actuation happens on the fat cells and collagen fibers. The association of this method with the therapeutical currents may bring good results on the treatment of concentrated fat, cellulitis, liquid retention, muscular flaccidity among others. The Vibria and Hibridi equipment are indicated for this treatment.
Microdermabrasion: Mostly known as peeling, this procedure presents an exfoliation technique that is not invasive, and is divided in crystal peeling and diamond peeling. This procedure may be recommended for the dark skin because it helps on acne treatment, an alimentation very common on this skin type. Due to the major predominance of sebaceous glands on the face, the skin gets oily and contributes to the larger density of bacteria that causes this harm.
LED/LASER: These technologies act on the photoreceptors, which cause a transformation on the cell metabolic activity, being a “fuel” to organic reactions. This is a non-invasive highly indicated to dark skin, for being an effective procedure that is not aggressive nor has restrictions. It is possible to perform rejuvenating protocols, tissue repairs, stains, stretch marks, among others. The Fluence equipment is indicated for this treatment.
